The Republic of Chile, commonly known as Chile, is a South American country with a unique geographical location. It is a long narrow stretch of land which is bordered by Andes Mountain range to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Chile borders Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru by land. It is the southernmost country in the world and is the closest country to Antarctica. The Pacific islands of Juan Fernández, Isla Salas y Gómez, Desventuradas, and Easter Islands in Oceania are under Chilean control. They also claim about 1,250,000 square kilometers of Antarctica under the Chilean Antarctic Territory. The capital and largest country is Santiago and their national language is Spanish.

Chile is considered as a developing country. It is among the most economically and socially stable nations in South America. Chile’s diverse economy provides a lot of opportunities. Its industries are largely supported by the B2B sector. Its more traditional sectors like mining have been the cornerstone of their economy. New industries like fintech, e-commerce and biotech are now making a mark on the economy and could prove to be the way forwards.

EXPORTS AND IMPORTS IN CHILE

Chile is a country that exports more than it imports, resulting in a positive trade balance. In 2020, the total value of exports was 73.5 billion US dollars, while the total value of imports was 59.2 billion US dollars. The main products exported were copper, fruits, fish products, paper and pulp, and chemicals, while the main products imported were machinery, vehicles, mineral fuels, electrical equipment, and pharmaceuticals. In 2021, imports of goods and services increased significantly, while exports decreased slightly.

TOP EXPORTS OF CHILE

29% ($21 billion): Copper ores and concentrates. 19.8% ($14.5 billion): Refined copper and copper alloys, unwrought. 3.46% ($2.54 billion): Fish fillets and other fish meat (whether or not minced), fresh, chilled or frozen. 2.77% ($2.03 billion): Chemical wood pulp, soda or sulphate, other than dissolving grades. 2.62% ($1.92 billion): Apricots, cherries, peaches (including nectarines), plums and sloes, fresh. 2.55% ($1.87 billion): 7402 - Unrefined copper; copper anodes for electrolytic refining. (Figures as of 2020. Source: TrendEconomy) Copper ores make up for 29% of Chile’s exports. The next 19.8% is taken up by refined copper and copper alloys. Another 2% is unrefined copper.
