It is the southernmost country in the world and is the closest country to Antarctica. The Pacific islands of Juan Fernández, Isla Salas y Gómez, Desventuradas, and Easter Islands in Oceania are under Chilean control. They also claim about 1,250,000 square kilometers of Antarctica under the Chilean Antarctic Territory. The capital and largest country is Santiago and their national language is Spanish.
