Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in Western Asia. Known for its rich cultural heritage, it has a diverse landscape and a population of around 85 million. Tehran is its capital and largest city.

Ambassador and Consul General

The Global India Business Forum (GIBF) - an international business chamber, met the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of India, H.E. Dr. Iraj Elahi and Commercial Attache, Dr. Hossein Bamiri, on November 20, 2024 when they discussed on collaboration for better trade relations.
On behalf of GIBF, Founder and Global President of GIBF, Dr. Jitendra Joshi and Co-founder and Secretary General Deepali Gadkari explained about GIBF’s objectives and initiatives with the ambassador. H.E. Dr. Iraj Elahi, Dr. Hossein Bamiri and the GIBF team discussed about strengthening the economic ties further through greater collaboration between the two countries.
The GIBF team also explained how the India-Iran Business and Cultural Councils, an initiative by the GIBF, could amplify relations between the two countries. The ambassador while appreciating GIBF’s efforts in promoting bilateral trade and investment opportunities between countries assured his embassy’s support to GIBF.
The GIBF team also presented the Honorary Membership memento and brochure to the high commissioner.

About Iran

Iran, also called Persia, is a country situated in Western Asia and is bordered by countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Turkey and Iraq. Tehran is the capital of Iran and is also the largest city in the country. Tehran is also the cultural and economic hub. It is also a major regional and middle power and also has large deposits of fossil fuels which make it a country of international interest and Iran also exerts a major influence in international energy security and also on the world economy. Iran also has 22 UNESCO World Heritage Sites due to its rich history and culture.

Iran has huge reserves of oil and natural gas and because of these reserves the country exerts a huge influence on the international trade of petroleum products. Most countries have Iran on their list among other Middle Eastern countries when it comes to importing oil and petroleum products. Hence, the country has immense amount of business opportunities in the mining sector. The country also leads in the manufacturing and agriculture sectors and has been among the top 5 producers of apricots, cherries, sour cherries, cucumbers, walnuts, etc. Tourism is another sector that can attract a lot of business opportunities from other countries as Iran is known to have a lot of heritage sites which are listed under UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Overview In 2022, Iran was the number 40 economy in the world in terms of GDP (current US$), the number 86 in total exports, the number 69 in total imports, the number 116 economy in terms of GDP per capita (current US$) and the number 60 most complex economy according to the Economic Complexity Index (ECI).

The top exports of Iran are Ethylene Polymers ($2.73B), Refined Copper ($1.02B), Acyclic Alcohols ($997M), Raw Aluminium ($894M), and Petroleum Gas ($595M), exporting mostly to China ($5.72B), Turkey ($3.17B), Kuwait ($960M), Pakistan ($762M), and India ($653M).In 2022, Iran was the world's biggest exporter of Sheep and Goats ($362M).

Top Imports of Iran

The top imports of Iran are Broadcasting Equipment ($3.18B), Corn ($2.29B), Soybeans ($1.63B), Motor vehicles; parts and accessories (8701 to 8705) ($1.21B), and Rice ($1.17B), importing mostly from China ($9.44B), United Arab Emirates ($6.38B), Brazil ($4.3B), Turkey ($2.9B), and India ($1.84B).
