ABOUT INDONESIA

Indonesia, also officially known as the Republic of Indonesia, is a country situated in Southeast Asia and Oceania, and is between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The country has more than 17,000 islands which include Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi and New indonesia (Papua). Indonesia is also the world’s largest island country and has a land area of 19, 04,569 sq.km. The current population of Indonesia stands at 27, 35, and 23,615. The country is also home to the largest Muslim community in the world.The country is a sovereign state and is a presidential, constitutional republic with an elected legislature. It consists of 34 provinces, five of which enjoy special status. The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta and the country shares its land borders with other countries like Papua New indonesia, East Timor and the Eastern part of Malaysia. Other neighbouring countries are Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, Palau and Andaman and Nicobar islands, from India.Despite having a large population and densely populated cities, Indonesia is lauded for keeping the country’s biodiversity intact and beautiful and also has vast lands of wilderness which, in turn, supports this large biodiversity. The country is a member of several multilateral organisations such as the UN, WTO, IMF, G20, etc.Indonesia is considered as a middle power among other international countries and is the only regional power in Southeast Asia.

The exports of Indonesia increased by 9.54% to $15.28 billion in November 2020, whereas the imports of the country dropped by 17.46% to $12.66 billion in the same month. The sales in the first 11 months of the year 2020 fell by 4.22% as compared to the previous year, whereas the purchases fell by 18.91% in the first 11 months of the year 2020.

The top exports of Indonesia are crude oil, gas, animal and vegetable fats and oils and electric equipment and machinery. The major export partners of the country are the USA, China, Japan, India and Singapore.
