ABOUT Chad

ABOUT Chad

Chad is a landlocked country located in north-central Africa. The landscape consists of a shallow basin that gradually ascends from the Lake Chad region in the west and is bordered by mountains in the north, east, and south. Natural irrigation is restricted to the Chari and Logone rivers and their tributaries, which flow from the southeast into Lake Chad. The capital, N’Djamena (formerly Fort-Lamy), is nearly 1,000 miles (1,600 km) away from the western African coastal ports when traveling by road.
Cotton holds significant importance as an agricultural product in Chad. While primarily meant for export, the processing of raw cotton creates jobs for a majority of industrial workers and contributes to Chad's export revenue. Most of the cotton fiber produced in Chad's processing facilities is shipped to Europe and the United States.
