Mexico, officially known as the United Mexican States, is a country situated in the Southern portion of North America. The country shares its borders with other countries and oceans like the USA, the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala, Belize, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico has a total land area of 19,72,550 sq. km. and the population of the country as of 2020 stands at 12,89,32,753. Mexico is also the most populous Spanish-speaking nation. The capital of Mexico is Mexico City and is also the largest city. Other major cities of the country are Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Tijuana, Toluca, Ciudad Juarez and Leon. The official and national language of Mexico is Spanish and the major religion practiced in the country is Christianity. Mexico won its independence from the Spanish rule in the year 1821 through the Mexican War of Independence. Mexico is considered as a developing country with the USA being its largest economic partner. The large economy, population and politics have made Mexico not only a regional power but also a middle power as well. Mexico has a large number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is an ecologically megadiverse country due to its vast biodiversity. Mexico is also a member of the United Nations, the WTO, the G8+5, the G20, the Uniting for Consensus group under the UN and the Pacific Alliance trade bloc.
