Republic of El Salvador, also called as El Salvador, is a country situated in Central America. It is also the smallest and the most densely populated country in Central America and shares its borders with Honduras, Guatemala and the Pacific Ocean. The capital of El Salvador is San Salvador and this is also the largest city in the country. The current population of the country stands at 64,86,205. Spanish is the official language of the country and there are indigenous languages spoken as well. El Salvador has a long history of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions and the country has over 20 volcanoes out of which one of them Izalco have been active even today. The country has over 300 rivers and the most important river is the Rio Lempa; this river is El Salvador’s only navigable river. The country is also filled with lakes, and one of them is Lake Guija is the largest natural lake in El Salvador.The country has a tropical climate and has strong wet and dry seasons. The Pacific lowlands are uniformly hot and the central plateau and mountainous areas are more moderate. The rainy season starts from May and goes on till October and this time of the year is referred to as the winter season.
